Comparing intakes on a dyno
I'm by no means an expert but I have recently been reading up on a lot of threads of people comparing intakes on a dyno.
I didn't want to threadcrap on anyone so I am asking the question on a separate thread. Isn't the whole point of an intake to take in air while the vehicle is actually moving and at speed .... so unless a shop fan can give you the equivalent of 60-120 mph wind speeds all over the front of the car to simulate a moving car- the odds are the results won't accurately reflect the difference in different intake setups. Am I totally off?? Let me know... thanks. |

Sitting still, the engine will bake any air no matter if it's from down low or up top. However, colder air sits low and when driving these conditions affect IAT's in comparison to the available air inside the engine bay up higher; which is always much hotter. I'd say anywhere from 5-10 degrees on a moving vehicle. This is because a CAI is shielded from those hot engine temps and a DCI is not. |
