I bought my N55 e90 a month ago, prior owner had removed the oil t-stat. Is the conclusion NOT to remove it?
The best practice is to put the spring in tha back of the t-stat pluger to force oil flow to the cooler all the time, correct? I took my car the track 2wks ago running map 1 on the JB4 and oil temp peaked just below 260 during 4 20min sessions. I had Maxcool option running. So things went ok, however next session in August i plan to run a bit more power after some suspension upgrades and anticipate cooling will be more of an issue. |

Well I re-installed the oil t-stat with the spring on the "wrong" side. Big differnce from not having the t-stat to this setup. Without the T-stat I would be at 250 on the highway while esay driving, now its down to 235-240. Oil takes a lot longer to warm up. I was running 230 until I hit the throtle hard a couple of times, then it went up to 240.
Taking out the t-stat is definetively a no-no. |
