Silicon Hoses for baby diesel
Guys I know this is discussion on N54 engines but i need some advice anyway on my car.
The car is a 318d M47 engine (M47TU2D20) (Euro spec) As my car needs a service, and i need to change the turbo breather pipe anyway, i thought i would change everything to silicone hoses. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1807796873...ht_1102wt_1037 How many metres of hose would i need to get? cheers P.S. also would it be worth my while fitting a K&N air filter to the car or would it be a waste of time? Frankly dont know how much u need but be careful with K&N the oil will eventually runs thru piping and then to Air mass Snsor and viola ur warranty will be void, that happened to me on my 02 MCS luckily the Mini Mechanic was a fellow Puerto Rican and they used it under warranty

the oil on the filter will continue to run thru the piping and then get ahold of the Filament on the sensor and wreak havoc on it , that happened to me and I saw it with my own eyes!!! maybe it wont happen to you but I learned from this past experience and thats why I reccomend a dry filter vice oily filter, AMSOIL is a Good one

I'm pretty certain you want silicone hoses and not silicon.
Silicon is used to make computer chips. Silicone is that rubbery substance that can seal or withstand heat. |

@Aaron.B the the dimensions should be as follows 4" inlet 6" long (No more than this trust me, the Amsoil is 7") also you will have to move the inlet hose to the motor at leat anywhere from 1-2 inches towards the right to accomodate the filter otherwise it will hit the Original mounts and also it will stand about half an inch high, so it will hit the hood and scratch it!! you have to play with it ok!!

For K&N or any pre-oiled filter, just open it up from the bag and let it air out (in a controlled dust free environment) for a few days. I never experienced a problem in any of our other cars.
