Need to Identify Electrical Component
I recently bought a 2008 328xi salvage car with minor damage and am in the middle of repairs. I'm trying to identify the electrical component located near the foglights on each side. The wiring loom splits into 2 components about 10 inches from the connector for the fog light. One piece of the loom goes to the fog light, the other piece goes to ????. It must be something that mounts within inches of the foglights and there is one on each side.
The component is missing from each side so I have nothing to start with. The internet dealer I've been buying parts from isn't any help. One thing I do know is it is NOT the horn. Any help would be appreciated. jmd_forest |

There are two sensors on the fender liner and I think those are the ones that you are looking for.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your responses. I've been using the online EPC at RealOEM.com and I believe it is the same as the dealer. Unfortunately, not knowing what to look up hinders your ability to look up the part. I've even had the parts guys at Tischer try and help. I've gone through every diagram of every subsystem in that area and still can't find it. However, Kev's hint that there is a sensor on the fender liner might help. Unfortunately, both fender liners had been scrapped before I purchased the car but at least I have a new starting place to look. I've tried on online TIS/elecvtrical diagram but was unable to view the data as it only works with IE and there is no IE on this computer. Thanks again for the help. If anyone else can provide additional hints I'd be greatfull. jmd_forest |

I've only dealt with older versions of ETK, but there was a graphic-search function which was very helpful for this kind of problem. You could just about browse towards the problem area, and finally click on the part to identify what you were looking at. Glancing at Realoem, I don't see that functionality (sweet site, though). Maybe someone with ETK can chime in?
Good luck! |

Sounds like that is the connector for the TPMS sensor receiver. It clips onto the front side of the wheel liner.

Well I just confirmed by taking my car apart. The TMPS sensor reciever is in the same harness as the fog lights. It has 3 wires. The number off of it is 6 781 846-02, but for some reason it does not come up to anything on Tisher's site.
The connector looks like this ![]() I hope that helps ![]()

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. I believe the TPMS sensor is it, especially since Snowball confirmed the merge into the foglight wire harness.
Now, If I can only stp the order for the impact sensors and get the tpms sensors to replace it. jmd_forest |

Snowball and flem;
Before I go off half cocked (again) and possibly order a wrong part (again), I'm hoping you can help me confirm your identification. The connector I am talking about hangs off of a wire about 10 inches long that merges directly into the harness with the fog light connector wire. Picture of my issue is below. The connector is sitting on the bottom lip of the bumper cover. You can see trace the wire up to where it merges in with the foglight harness. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...iconnector.jpg Thanks again for the help jmd_forest |

Yes I can confirm 100% that it is the wire for the TPMS sensor receiver. That is the same connector that I pictured. I also left the wire disconnected and I had a TPMS Malfunction light. If it helps the number on the little module is 6 781 846-02, it comes up to nothing in Tisher's site, but call a dealer and they might be able to cross it for you.

Snowball,
You da Man! Thanks so much for all the help. I'll need to get in touch with the parts supplier I've been dealing with and try to work out the kink in my order (on their recommendation I ordered the front impact sensor). SoCalTech; Another potential engineer I suppose....EE myself. Being that the car is a salvage unit in the middle of repairs, I have many warning lights on the dash. I ordered an INPA cable and downloaded the software and I hope I'll be able to reset the lights when I get to playing with that part of the rebuild. jmd_forest |

I got the TPMS receivers in the mail yesterday and installed them . Once I put a little air in one front tire the warning light went out on the dash.
Special thanks to Snowball (and flem) for the help. Now....on to my next problems, the seat belt tensioner and that damn lifter tick. jmd_forest |
