Haven't had a ticket or problem for a window plate both in a previous car and in my car now (~3yrs). When I once got pulled over (for something else), cop mentions it and I casually 'dismiss' it and cop doesn't really care. I'll mount it on the bumper as soon as I get a ticket for it, but I do recognize that it is just one more thing a cop can add to reasons for pulling me over (usually have 2 reasons for a stop, not just one), but I'm usually extra-careful around them anyway.

Almost got pulled over yesterday for pretending to drive an F1 car through a yellow light at a downhill intersection. Thank god for heavy traffic. Still put me in check for a while.

IMO having the plate in the window attracts more attention. just leave it in the car like i do. without the NYplate in the window how can he tell your not from FL or PA when hes in front of you.

Several states don't require a front plate. NJ and NY should get with the program.

What happens when you get a warning for it?
Does it get noted on your "file" any cop can see when they run your DL? Or there is no such thing and a warning means that you'll get a ticket only if the same cop catches without one again?

Alos, just read that NJ cops can't issue an equipment failure ticket if you are from out of state.

There was a while I refused to wear a seatbelt but after Getting two seatbelt tickets I just followed suit and now always wear my seatbelt. You got lucky with this to ticket, but how many more will it take or cost you before u realized that coPs love giving these tickets and city lOves us paying for them.

They need to make a hideaway plate mechanism that extends downward first then slides out and flips up.

NYC roads + lip + hideaway = no bueno

wow, thread revival. Since then I bought the license plate tow hook adaptor. Suits my need of not drilling the holes and the cops need of requiring a front plate.

In PA you don't need a front plate
In fact they only send you a back one when you get your car registered!!

Most cops will not care even a tiny little bit that people think badly of them for enforcing a law, regardless of how trivial one may feel the law may be.

Patrol officers are tasked with responding emergencies and calls for assistance from the public. Between these call the officers are performing patrol duties looking for all flavors of violations. This includes criminal and motor vehicle. It is a fact that many substantial criminal arrests are generated as a result of a motor vehicle stop.

During my career as a police officer I took every advantage to pull over vehicles for moving and equipment violations including tinted widows and failure to display registration plates. I wrote may tickets for these violations and was never concerned that someone may have a poor opinion of me.

The short answer is that if you are going to get upset about getting the ticket then abide by the law. If you are going to violate the law then accept that you may get ticketed. if you do not agree with the law then have a discussion with your legislator.

^in Ny isnt it a secondary offense. He was going above and beyond. Police officers are supposed to use proper judgement when attempting to pull over a vehicle-? Problem is out east is that traffic violations are their main source of income so they abuse the law to the fullest of their abilities.

It's also illegal to have ANY tint on the front windows in NYS but you don't get pulled over unless it's blatantly dark.
I also fail to see the point of front plates. They are for enforcement reasons only. They provide no functionality- safety or otherwise except to help law enforcement acquire your tag number. It is a redundancy and makes no sense. All apprehension is done from behind, it's the same with our registration and inspection. Should all be in one place- on rear the plate like FL and many other states.
