how to connect with your in-law family
I very been engaged for a while now and getting married soon. However, I still don't know how to connect with my parents in-law and my sister in-law and her husbant. We hang out from time to time but its almost always hard. I like them and they like me too but there is always something in the background of my mind and theirs. Heeeeeeelp

Suggestions:
1) Find something you can help them with (car, computer, home repair, etc.) and do a damn good job. 2) Find a common interest or activity. 3) Find something completely new to both of you (hot air ballooning, sky diving, etc.) and go do it. Share a common new experience. |

I was with my ex for 2.8 years and still didn't call them by name or really connected because of some awkward moments but did very well with the brother. Take em out to dinner, plan a little weekend or whatever. Oh have them meet your parents. They still hadn't seen mine lol, same with my ex before that. I'm starting to see this as a warning sign

Sucks for you. I've only talked to my mother in law maybe twice since being with her daughter for 5 years. It's good to live in different countries..

I have the opposite problem, gf broke up with me however her parents call me all the time and want to see me...
Just make a effort to see them and talk with them, invite them to come do things with you two. Don't be afraid of them, be respectful don't dwell that they are her parents and you have to impress them, be yourself. |
