Motul 8100 X-cess 5w40?
Has anyone used this motor oil? I've ed and haven't seen a review of this particular motor oil. My indy shop likes to use Motul instead of BMW's 5w30 and recommended 8100 X-clean 5w30. I looked that up on Motul's website and it shows BMW's LL04 approval not LL01. I pointed that out to my shop and then they suggested the X-cess 5w40 which shows LL01 approved on their website.
This will be my first oil change not using BMW's 5w30 oil, and I'd sure appreciate feedback from anyone who's used this oil. Kinda hoping oil temps will stay a little lower in the Summer.

It's unremarkable oil. Lighter oil will keep temps loose if that's what your worried about. FWIW BMW uses their 30w oil for all the new turbo V8's (M-models as well).

I've read a few of your posts on motor oil, so I'm interested in what you think.

I'm not trying to be a tool (seriously) but I get a good number of hits googling "Motul 8100 5w40 UOA". I haven't read through them or tried to narrow the search to just BMWs. A majority of the posts are probably at bobistheoilguy.com, where they talk about nothing but lubricants and other operating fluids. (I wonder how many snide sexual remarks that statement will generate)

I think it's like every other LL01 of that weight. Use with confidence but if you're worried about temps (can't see how since you're in SF) I would look at a 30 weight or a "lite 40w" such as M1 0w40, Castrol 0w30, BMW 5w30. It's not like you're driving on the autobahn.
