LSD, worth it on 07 335i?
So im in the middle of a few different options and i need yall to give me some advise. Im going to be putting my car up for sale as soon as i get this figured out so with that being said. My rear diff needs replacing. Its whining like a mother f**ker and only at 66K miles. I got a quote by the dealer to have a new one installed for 1100. I have had my eyes on the wavetrac LSD for some time now even before this happened. So with the price difference, would it be worth paying the extra money for an LSD to sell the car for maybe more money and also a little quicker? i believe the LSD installed would probably run around 1600-1800. I have an amazing shop here in NW ohio call accelerated performance that would be doing the work. Let me know your thoughts. Its for an 07 Alpine White 335i 6-speed.

If you're going to sell the car, it's not worth it. You would have to be selling the car to the right buyer in order sell it for more for having an LSD. If you put the money into it for the LSD, you prob won't get it back.

Exactly. Not many people care for/want LSD, and certainly won't pay you extra for having it.

I think if you spend the extra to get the LSD, there might be someone willing to do a diff swap + money. All said and done you might be able to save a good amount.
However I'd say - just go with stock one; dealing with finding a potential buyer, lining up a schedule for swap, etc. might be too much hassle. |

If you're going to sell it, try changing the oil. Use a heavy weight differential oil with graphite to see if that fixes the noise issue and dump the car. I know some people may not think that's the right thing to do, but why dump money into the car that you're not going to get back. Who knows, could just be making noise because your differential oil is low...

For Redline, you should probably use the regular 75w90 in the stock diff, and 75w90NS in the LSD if you get a gear type LSD (Quaife, Wavetrac, etc.). I am running 75w90NS in my Wavetrac, and absolutely no noise. You can always add a very small amount of limited slip additive if you do get chatter, but probably won't be needed.
The "NS" does not have friction additives, and is what is needed for those gear type LSD's that work by friction. |

Agreed - I wouldn't bother getting an LSD if you are going to sell the car. If you were keeping it, no-brainer - LSD is worth it. #1 mod for these cars IMO ...
