Walnut Cleaning at 60k miles
Just wanted to add another data point for supporting Walnut Cleaning of your intake valves. I was getting some rough idle and at times JERKY 1st gear pulls (especially when cold). I also had the occasional 4-5-6 cylinder misfires (need more time to see if these have been cured). But so far the 1st - 2nd gear pulls are a lot smoother and the idle is rock solid, before it fluttered up and done 1-200 RPM.
My car has been tuned since 10k miles with almost every iteration of the procede and even a GIAC flash, no other mods. The car feels like new and just runs smoother, this is a must have item on 40-60k mile maintenance, if you plan on keeping your car past 60k miles. I actually got mine done at the dealer (BMW San Francisco) for a reasonable price. Not the $300 bargain basement prices other guys have received, but considering I live 1 block away and they also replace the Gasket on the intake plenum, it seemed reasonable. Ping Cedric Tong at BMW SF for a quote. For whatever reason they like to quote high (initially quoted $850, but when I came in to pay I was pleasantly surprised with a price substantially less) |

^ Thanks for the feedback. My car is rough when cold as well, and I'm pretty sure the previous owner didn't have the valves cleaned, so it sounds like cleaning them might solve my issue.
+1 on adding this to the 60k maintenance. I've been reading up quite a bit on the subject, and it seems to be a no brainer give all the before/after reviews. |

At 54k I had significant stumbling/misfiring at high RPMs. Turns out it was the intake tracts. Cleaned it using the carb-cleaner method, and it's a whole different car! The problem's gone too.
