Clean air con unit

I've noticed when turning off the air con a slight odour is released for a couple of minutes. Reading some threads suggest spraying some bacteria killer while leaving the air con on circulation for 10 mins and that should resolve the issue.

I'm wondering if there's a better way of resolving the issue I.e. At the root? Is it easy to replace the filters or something any step by step guides that I could possibly follow?

Thanks

My car too suffers from stinky air con, on start up and shut down (not all the time mind)

Gonna get the Halfauds air con grenade thing and just give that a go...

You'll never get to the root as bacteria and fungus is constantly growing in it whatever you do.

I pulled out my cabin filter and seemed fresh.

If anyone has success let us know!!

i always thought it was just the water and moisture in the system being stale, and the various fungi growing within. had mine done from a mobile specialist in the spring, guy came to me at work and an hour later - no smell, and ice cold. think it was only £70

sure you will be able to find it cheaper if you dig around on t'internet

not tried this personally but I heard it suggested to put the heater on max & recirculate on a warmish/hot day for 5 mins & that will do it. Obviously with the aircon on.

Mine doesnt smell so not tried it.

+1 . Give the air con good blast both on Hot & Cooling once a month this helps to stop stag net bacteria, also keep the air con switched on at all times helps, the button on air con unit with snow flake on with green light.

I can vouch for the hot air blast having suffered this with my e46 and the hot air working for me.
I'd say hot air blast then one of those air con conditioners products. And also as said try to keep the air con button on...failing that when you reach your destination and have been using the ac, turn the heat right up and blast out the moisture for a minute or so. You may want to get out the car on a really hot day!
