The day its goes into production...call 1-800-831-1117 and talk to a rep, they have all the info until shipping..

Not at all.

The production number is available well in advance of when it goes into production (as in months in advance). Could even be available within days of placing your order.

I have my production number for my 550i and it's being produced in week 42.

Woah im way out of it....I thought he meant VIN NUMBER lol...my bad dude yea i got my production number 2 days after i ordered..ur CA WILL have that info

I requested to have my production number day of ordering. That way I was guaranteed my spot in line. I would request to have within the next couple days.

On a related note - does anyone know if production numbers are sequentially assigned? (As in the cars come out of the factory 1,2,3,4,5 . . . )

They are not sequentially assigned. I read threads from this spring where people had production numbers that were both higher and lower than mine. My production was late July 07.
