Hartge didn't just transplant the living, breathing V10 from the M5 into this E46 coupe. While it was on the operating table, the corporate engineers fitted reworked cylinder heads, high-performance camshafts, a new engine map and a near straight-through exhaust system to coax 550 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque from BMW's masterpiece. ....

Twists and Turns
With all 5.0 liters working hard, the H50 car scoots to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and on to 200 mph — yes, this is a real 200-mph 3 Series. The Coupe comes with Hartge's own suspension system, which is fully adjustable and drops the ride height up to 1.2 inches. With ultrawide 20-inch wheels carrying 245/30ZR20 front and 295/25ZR20 rear Pirelli P Zero Nero tires[, it takes a determined stab at the throttle pedal to force the rear of the car out of line, and then the Hartge-tuned limited-slip differential will help keep even enthusiastic amateurs from burying it in a hedge.

This car understeers gently at first before sliding round ever so progressively at the rear, but only with serious provocation. If the rears lose grip, the stability control can be tuned to deliver either a gentle slide or an armful of opposite.

With eight-piston calipers working with 15.0-inch front brake discs and four-piston calipers working on the rear 13.6-inch discs, a dab on the middle pedal hauls off speed like throwing out the proverbial anchor. Altogether the H50 has the composure of a BMW 6 Series and the speed of a Ferrari F430, which deserves some kind of unofficial medal.

Drunk on Speed
The Hartge H50 is brutal, ugly and loud, but the way this car dispenses with traffic, winding roads and autobahns suggests it might just be the fastest car you could own, as a spurt of acceleration is always a click of the fingers away.

A 200-mph BMW 3 Series is one of those deviant cars that we're just happy to see from time to time. The fact that this one is every bit as easy to live with as the slightly more upmarket M5 makes it the ultimate sleeper.

Of course the Hartge H50 drinks fuel like a thirsty tramp, but this is just the price you pay for commuting to work in the unofficial BMW M5 CSL.

The manufacturer provided Edmunds this vehicle for the purposes of evaluation.

here's the thing, the acceleration times aren't better than a chipped 335i. So what's the point? Your car will be heavier and slower.... looks cool on paper to have a V10, but in practice, it's kind of a disappointment.

Perhaps it's better at 150+ MPH... however, I've never taken my car even near that high of a speed.

Sure, 0-60 will be similar. It's all in traction.... But i'd sure love to see the difference to 100 from a roll.

Yeah, the article makes it sound like it's a monster. 550hp (crank hp no doubt) puts it in the 450RWHP range and I guess it probably weighs at least 3600lbs (probably more). Sounds like C6 Z06 breakfast to me!!

The stated 0-60 times on that Hartge V10 335i Coupe is full of crap.

If you (and them) think that a 550 HP V10 equipped 335i Coupe with 295 rear tires AND a LSD can't do any better, I feel for you.

Think about it for a second. The M5 with skinnier tires, less hp and more weight does it in 4.4 seconds or less.

This car weighs like 300 pounds less, has 50 more hp and wider rubber.
It's probably more like 4.0 seconds. And even then still limited by traction.
The difference would be MUCH more from a roll.
That car will walk on by the M5 at anytime, and an M5 will walk on by a PROceded 335i anytime. You are kidding yourself SEVERLY (or just don't have a clue) to think a chipped 335i accelerates as fast.

It's a beast of a car to be sure, don't believe those absolutely silly 0-60 times they posted. Plus 0-60 times means squat.
That car would make a PROceded 335i look slow and you'd watch it's taillights get smaller and smaller really fast.
That car is probably a high 11 second car and trapping 120 ish.

They charge an unbelievable $220,000 for the car.
Obviously they'll probably only sell a half dozen or so to the super rich who just wants the exclusivity of the car, along with the stealth sleeper speed.
Can you imagine the looks on some dudes face driving a Ferrari F430 as you pull away.
To the super rich living in autobahn territory, that alone would be worth owning the car.

Who in their right mind would pay 220K for that car when they can buy an Exotic for less than that?

Despite the HP figures, the car doesn't seem to be that fast, and i don't know if i trust taking that car up to 200mph....
