He's not otherwise a big spender, gets ten or more years from an inexpensive car. A glass of red wine daily would be the most beneficial. All alcohol lowers blood pressure, but calories and overindulgance counter that.

I don't get into liquor too often but I'll have a beer every few nights. I recently started brewing which really makes it hard.

I myself don't like to drink during the work week. I also don't drink if I feel stressed or depressed because alcohol is a downer to begin with.

My dad is one of those people who says he drinks wine during the week because of the antioxidents. It's true that a SINGLE glass gives you everything you need. Over the years that single glass has been becoming multiple glasses a night. Just saying, it's a slippery slope.

I'll have a beer or 2 anywhere from 2 to 4 nights a week. Sit on the porch with the dog and/or wife and listen to nothing. (the wife is instructed not to talk).

Willpower is certainly the key for not exceeding the single glass a day. A couple friends of mine have attempted it without success.

I'm glad this thread came up because I am now dialing back my daily beverages. I just got a new house and for the first few days it felt nice to come home, let the dog out, and crack a beer. Problem is, I wouldn't feel like stopping so I have another - then it's 3 beers before I hit the sheets. With the beers I drink (mostly IPAs - and nothing "light"), we're talking an extra 900 calories a night, which is simply not sustainable. I just got home from a week at the cape and am back to no drinking during the week. The best part about that frequency is that the first drink on a Friday night feels soooo much more gratifying and really mellows me out. Working up a high tolerance kind of sucks...
