I Love CPO Warranty

So my air unit fan went out and needed to take it in to get repaired under the warranty. Keep in mind I have... JB4, Chargepipe w/ BOV, DCI, DPs, Magnaflow exhaust.

Did some research and found some friendly mod dealers that could help me out. Got some info and contacted Pacific BMW. Rather not mention on the forums who helped me but they definitely took care of me. Spoke to him over the phone explaining my air issue, as well as, my current mods on the car. He told me, "Dont worry about it.. just bring it in and we will take care of you."

So I get there and decide, why not explain that I do have some white smoke puffing out of my car in idle once in a while. Its not really an issue but I did some research and notice it does become a problem in the future and was hoping there be some way they can look into and replace anything if needed.

All in all, without even inspecting the car before I leave the service dept, one of the mechanics says he's got me covered. Next thing I know they give me a call telling me they will go ahead replace the follow parts:

- Turbos with adjustment
- Turbo Seals
- Bypass Oil Pipe
- Valve Cover Gasket
- Injectors

I was excited to get all this done for only a $50 deductible when I just mentioned the issue for shits and giggles. They could have easily ignored the situation with my mods but the mechanic was awesome and assured me that I would be good with getting my Turbos replaced even before I signed the document to drop my car off. Mechanic and Service Advisor where awesome because he had no problems about my mods and asking about them, etc.

Just thought I share this information cause maybe there are others that can go to local dealers and try to do the same thing with an good reason/excuse.

Simple explanation.... your dealer loves to do warranty work whether its truely needed or not. They rake buckets of cash from bmw for it and the cost to Joe customer is nada or a small deductible. Everyone wins.

Even easier for the dealer to do when BMW considers these to be known issues.

This is true. This post was mainly for those that might want to just go try at a their local dealer to get brand new engine components replaced for $50.

But just thought I'd share with others.

OT:
This is not true.. well at least not in Canada. Dealers do not like warranty work because they pay out of pocket for it and get reimbursed from BMW afterwards. This is a lengthy process and sometimes without the appropriate paperwork (tons of techs misplace paperwork), BMW may reject the claim and the dealer has to pay out of pocket.

Furthermore, tech's are allotted half the amount of time for a warranty claim and get paid half the amount of work they would get if this was done out of warranty.

The result is a disgruntled mechanic trying to fix your car up as quickly as possible.

When things like this happen often enough, the buck is usually passed to us consumers via higher vehicle prices.

A 328i sedan fully packaged costs $50k...wtf?

OP, glad to hear you didn't have to pay much, CPO definitely helps but just remember, when you mod, you pay to play.

There's also the chance that point of failure had nothing to do with your mods. They can't always "prove" this, but if there's something they found as a clue, that indicates your modifications didn't cause the issue, then it "should" be covered under warranty.

I'm not a believer in trying to hide my modifications from the dealer. I leave my AP loaded when I take it in(I'm FBO anyways, not gonna remove the parts). The most I've heard from them is a comment about the cat-less downpipes possibly being an issue when I complained of a noise i was hearing, but they were just mentioning it. Ended up addressing the issue as an unrelated part.

I let them know what I have so they don't feel like they're wasting their time and I've found them to be pretty fair so far.
