It has nothing to do with the tune, It has to do whit how you drive your car, with or without a tune. Of course with the tune if you're going to be at the track every weekend, then, of course the engine will take a beating. But, again, it is how you put the pedal to the metal that will really make the difference on your engine.
Of course, that in my own opinion.!!

sure it does, but when you talk about increasing boost then you have to have a good tune that can take that increased psi and make safe useful power out of it by changing your timing... knowing what to do when your intake air temps go too high, pull timing when it sees something it doesn't like etc...

Yes it will raise your max boost, but your right foot decides how often you hit that boost level

If you have the power, you will use it! Pretty simple... It's normal, we are humans...
I think that the biggest factor of all is... LUCK! You drive like an idiot but maybe you got a 1A Engine. Maybe you drive like a grandma, but you got a piece of monday crap in your engine bay... There still are tolerances for our engines. Maybe you got lucky, maybe not... This applies when you're not a freaking idiot...

I just got it installed. Runs smoother and the kick is awesome. I actually drive it slower now because it's scary how much faster it is haha.
It really depends on how you drive it. The more you beat on it obviously it'll take a toll. On map 1 it should be no problem. On map 7 if you drive it like you stole it you can expect a drop in longevity... |

Hmmm
One should realize that over-time any machine will wear and eventually fail. Majority of people on these platforms have gone tuned and full bolt ons and exceed 100,000 miles no problem. A proper tune, and proper maintenance is all you need. I dont think the average joe has anything to worry about and that goes for any enthusiast either. Perhaps if you were tracking your car on a weekly basis running hot laps or 20 minute road courses then I would say you are really beating this car up. One should realize that there are certain cards you are dealt with in the long run, and one of them may end up being turbo failure, but that can happen to even a stock tuned vehicle. If you want your car to last forever, store it on a temperature/humidity controlled environment, fill all the mechanical bits with oil, and see what it looks like in a 100 years, otherwise enjoy your car |

I completely agree with Jeff. I've done that before where I wanted to baby my car because I want it to last forever... but then i realized i'm never really enjoying it to the full potential. I did it for so long that the time came when i wanted to upgrade it, but it was too late as the engine got old and shit started to fail left and right anyway... This car is getting the wrath of that where I am not waiting around any longer and upgraded things left and right as soon as i got it. I can honestly say i've enjoyed a car for the first time since i started driving to its current full potential. Even took it to the 1/4 and 20 min. hot lap racecourse! Funny thing is the instructor told me i'm really only driving it up to 65% of its potential on the race course, which to me felt like i'm beating the shit out of the car ...
With that said, there's no reason you can't drive a properly tuned car for as long or longer than a stock one. |

Amen to enjoying the car. It's what I do as soon as oil temperature is warm enough. It's a 335i!. Jeff hit the nail in the head, tuned right and maintenance. For longevity get and Oil Catch Can.. it keep junk out of your engine instead of recycling it back into the engine over and over.
