Question about buying a Short Shifter Kit (SSK) for an E92-335i
Hey folks.
I tried reading up on this and didn't really get the answer I'm looking for. I'm working on upgrading the shifting feel of my car. I've noticed different kits for sale...some with shift knobs and boots, other without and some with just the stalk. So far I have the BMS Modified BMW Clutch Delay and also the BMS Short Throw Clutch Stop: http://www.burgertuning.com/upgrades.html What would I need to buy to upgrade my car? Can I just buy the lever (first link) and be done with it? I don't need a knob and boot... Short Shift Lever: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/25110434219/ES46518/ Entire BMW Short Shift Kit (with knob and boot): http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...fter/ES205553/ UCC: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...ter/ES1****67/ Fidanza: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...ter/ES2226151/ http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...train/Shifter/ |

I have some great advice that will make your life a lot easier. Don't get one, they suck compared to stock. You have to be extremely accurate otherwise all you feel is notchiness. I liked mine before I knew better, now I'm seriously considering changing it back. Damn you previous owner!!

How does the BMW Performance Short Shift Lever compare to the actual $300+ kit that they sell besides not including the shift knob and boot? Is it the same thing? |

The B&M was cheap and was easy to install. |

Did you actually install the shifter or just buy it and never install it? Also...which is the B&M Shifter Lever? |

I have the B&M Short Shifter Lever as well, coupled with the stock shift knob (also have BMS CDV and clutch stop mod). Easy install and much shorter shifts. Not as smooth as stock (though I don't think any aftermarket lever will be as smooth as stock) but I am used to it.

The B&M has a different pivot part, where the PPk shifter is just a lever. while the PPK may have better leverage, i wanted more of a mechanical feel. |

Had short shifters in many different BMWs over the years and driven dozens of cars newer and older with short shifters, disliked or hated them all. Once the parts get sloppy, replace with new OE BMW stuff.
And you can delete the CDV entirely without buying any new parts.

It's not the same. The kit comes with the lower piece that the shift lever connects to too. I have the weighted m3 zhp shift knob from turner motorsports that i love on the BMW performance shift lever. I've never had a whole short shift kit on my BMW so I don't know if it feels better but I hear theyre notchy. I'm going back to oem.

Odd, my experience couldn't be more different than some of these guys. I love my UUC short shifter, DSSR, and weighted knob. I feel my shifting is quicker and more precise.

I have the Clutch Stop and Modded Clutch Valve in my car waiting to be installed. I haven't put them in yet as I wanted to do everything at the same time... Based on the feedback...I guess I might want to do the Cluthch Stop and Modded Clutch Valve first and see how I like it before I buy a Short Shift Lever. Quote:
This is what I thought most of the reviews would sound like. I do feel like biting the bullet and buying the Short Shift Lever for $60 and trying it out. The different between buying just the Short Shift Lever and the entire $350 PPK kit isn't too crazy is it? - Meaning there isn't much of a difference is there?
