19 with a drop will be just as rough as 20 without. I mentioned 18 because they handle better and ride is smoother. I'm on 19 now and they are all bent a little. Probably won't do that again.

I think with 20s you'd bend a rim in the first month...these roads are shit. Everywhere. It's rough with my 19s on coilovers and non-run flats.

I don't find the ride quality harsh at all on 20"s, they are better than my 18" RFTs for sure. Only downside is performance as others pointed out, poor acceleration due to the weight of the wheels. The car "feels" heavier. I'm lowered on KW V1s.

Higher Rotational mass = slower car.
18's and 19's work well with the 3 Series. 20's are just too big.
