Pioneer AVIC X1R - Fantastic
I tested the navi/DVD/CD player from Pioneer today. In Europe it's called AVIC X1R. It was an amazing machine.
Here's some info after testing. It's a DVD based navigation, so you'll have to use the DVD that comes with the player. In Europe it has the maps of all European maps including points of interest for the whole of Europe. The layout was really good on the big screen (you can chose not to have the screen on - it will automatically fold inside itself). You can chose nightvision or dayvision. There's four different kinds of views, including birds eye view. Really good overview. The navi was fast, precise and worked in tunnels to. The only problem with it being DVD based is that you have to plot in your adress and then take out the DVD if you wanna listen to a CD. Actually no problem if you have a CD changer or in my case, the iPod (why use CDs when you have an iPod with 6000 songs?). This is the best part: It is iPod compatible. When you mount it you fit a cable from the back of the player to your glove compartment. Connect your iPod and you have full control of your iPod through the touchscreen. All the playlists and so on. Amazing. You can also watch movies on this beauty. I ordered one today and was told that there's no problem using the steeringwheel volume controls with this player. To mount you'll need the adapter cause the Pioneer is the standard 1 DIN size. I will also have better sound in my car since the Pioneer has a more powerful amp than my normal system. It's a beautiful player that does everything. Except, in March 2006 the new model arrives, which is the same, only with bluetooth mobilephone compability. Check it out! |

I am thinking of buying the Avic X1R but I'm concerned about how it will look on the dashboard of the E90.

I've been thinking about that too. I'm a bit insecure if it will ruin the BMW class.

That info is on the driving computer. Not on the player.
