ACT Clutch issues vibration/chatter

Hey guys I recently got my act street disk clutch installed and I'm having some issues.

A little background on the clutch. I purchased it from a member on the forums that bought it used. From what he told me the clutch was taken out within hours I installation because they had issues with the friction disk. I purchased the clutch from him with a brand new friction disk and a lightly used pressure plate. The pressure plate had no burn marks and the surface seemed even and perfect.

Now onto the issues that I'm having with the clutch. About 120 miles after the install I started hearing chatter in the transmission area as well as vibration. I know have about 500 miles on the clutch and it has just gotten worse. I reused my flywheel, because the mechanic said it was okay. I installed all new parts ex. Throw out bearing, pilot bearing etc.

If I press the clutch in the noise stops. Otherwise it's chattering the entire time. In 6th gear at about 2k rpm the entire drivetrain seems to shake. The mechanic is saying that the clutch is bad. I would like to know of anyone has experienced something similar and what they did to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I'd never run a used clutch or PP (a new kit is only $500). Chatter should only be during engagement. If its vibrating while in gear, something may be out of balance (PP, FW, etc.). My guess is Something wrong with used PP (perhaps why they removed it), although I dunno why it would get progressively worse. I run an ACT as well fwiw.

Why didn't you ask yourself why did the first owner remove the clutch after a few hours ? You can find the ACT clutch kit for $430, this is not an item you buy used.

Yeah I know I messed up buying used. I was just in a rush and tight on cash.

Also when revving the car in nuetral the chatter is even more noticeable around 1k rpm.

it sounds to me like you are S.O.L. sorry to hear you are having issues. I love my ACT clutch!! Holds like a champ and drives great.

Sometimes trying to save a buck costs you more in the long run tough lesson learned, but really hope you can get everything taken care of low cost.

GOOD LUCK!
