Beware of ECS Tuning Magnetic Drain Plug
Just had the head snap off on the drain plug leaving the threads in the oil pan. Didn't even torque it down. The plug has always been torqued to 25 NM in the past. Made for one of the longest oil changes in history Luckily I got the rest of the plug out and went back to the OEM plug.
Looks like this is not the only time people have had problems with these cheap drain pugs, And here , oh and here, here also ECS, maybe it is time to stop selling this POS? |

Mine did exactly the same thing. I asked a rep at ECS if they were aware of this and he blatantly stated "No"! Luckily I was able to fish out the other piece in my oil pan. Buy this from someone else, too many are experiencing the exact same thing. POS for real!!!

This is a widely known issue and yet they refuse to change the design:

O_o this is like the fourth time i've seen this same problem with the same vendor's magnetic oil drain plug... like the poster said above me, you should just go with a different vendor. Be sure to ask lots of questions about the product next time... like what material it's made out of, how strong is the magnet, etc.
Remember... you get what you pay for... if you see a product such as this and it's somewhat expensive, find out why and it might be worth it to pay extra for quality. |

for those of you who've used it, do you actually see any metal shavings on the magnet when you remove? just curious how useful this product really is.
in previous vehicles i've owned, it came with magnets on the transmission oil pan and those had tons of shavings captured. |

Failures have been extraordinarily rare considering the number of plugs currently in use, majority of failures have been due to over torquing of the plug. If anyone has any issues with any ECS Tuning products please let me know so I can take care of you right away.

For the record I have this plug and have done 2 changes with it to this point. Have not had an issue. I make sure to use a torque wrench when tightening it up. I must admit though this thread as made me a bit paranoid now.
