USB upgrade question

Im sorry, I read now many pages in the USB thread... bit confused...

Its not possible to upgrade my car (one of the first e90, professional navi, idrive) to a USB plug, where I can connect an USB stick (playing from the filesystem, control,...)
because of changes in the headunit or something.

the only possibility is to use an mp3 player and aux in plug.

If your question is whether or not the above statements are correct then my answer would be yes.

If is my understanding that it's not possible to upgrade our cars (I have the same batch as you) and unless you go the iPod route and get an after market dealer installed iPod adapter then you're only choice is to use the aux input in the center console.
