Carputer Plan
Ok, so I am currently on the look out for a double scoop dash at my local junk yards but I thought I would share what My plan is.
After much through about going for Carputer or iDrive, I've decided to go CarPuter. The purpose of the computer in the car would be for the following. 1. Music Player 2. Internet 3. GPS I may add DVD support but I'll have to boot linux instead of android then. I've decided to go light weight for this project. http://www.amazon.com/Lilliput-Frame...ref=pd_cp_pc_0 http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-Audio...ds=hdmi+to+vga http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-Entertain...ndroid+mini+pc http://www.amazon.com/MK802-Android-...802%2B+mini+pc http://www.amazon.com/GlobalSat-BU-3...er+for+android Last edited by Joe-; 09-24-2012 at 02:14 PM.. |

As soon as I find the dash, I'll be starting to order rest of the parts and will put together a DIY.
I'll be mounting the keyboard / touch pad to the center console right before the arm rest, the idea will be to have clips so that it can be removed for easy battery access and for passenger to use. The wifi for the internet will come from my Cellular instead of using hot spots in the area. I can create a wifi hot spot using my cellular for even driving on the highway etc. Basic idea is, get in the car, computer comes on when car starts, auto connects to wifi via phone wifi tether. |

Good luck & have fun; here is what I installed in my last car:
100% built from scratched; used a Zotac Mini-ITX board w/ 2GB ram, dual core intel atom, 250gb hdd, vroom pc case, lilliput monitor, was fun to tinker with!

Shit, this makes me want to build a m-ITX computer and shove it on my dash!
![]() If you need help figuring out components to build one yourself, just ask! An older sandy-bridge CPU, m-ITX mobo, 2-4GB RAM, and a small SSD (or HDD if you can fit one) would work great. Im not sure what monitor you would go with though... Also, you might be able to modify a PSU so that you dont need an AC converter at all, although im no expert in that regard.
