I paid like 290-340 (can't remmeber) for the alarm, installed it myself and had te dealer program it for 110.

However, the OEM alarm does integrate with the prewired functionality of the car. It lights up the clown nose, works with the key fob and comfort access with nice piezoelectric arm/disarm tones (like Toyota's), and uses the BMW Assist antenna. It's a breeze to install yourself, and you cannot beat the price of the parts. The only disadvantage is that you must have the dealership activate it. |

Make sure you get that in writing, as I was told the same thing but it turned out not to be true. I did speak to BMWNA today and they are reviewing the case.

You can buy the BMW alarm here for $230 shipped:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214672 Install it yourself using the DIYs available on this forum. The dealer will charge you 1 - 2 hours to program the alarm.

The dealer should charge BMW to update the car. The only charge to you would be for retrofitting it to the vehicle and installation. I bill these things out all day. The plus is that you have the most updated version of software.

The only way to steal a BMW is hall it up on a flatbed and drive away with it. If someone going to go threw all that, let them have the car. As for a deterent... If they want the wallet/purse sitting on your seat or console (example) they will smash your window and take it regardless. Theives don't car about a loud alarm sound... they will be long gone before any bystandard cares to investigate. I leave my doors unlocked all the times, just so would-be theives don't have to break anything to get what they want. I had a pair of Serengetti Drivers stolen a few years back, but at least I didn't have a broken window!!! -Garrett |

I'm a little confused about the factory alarm and the OEM dealer-installed alarm (or DIY).
I have a "new" 2006 330i and it gives me audio feedback when I lock or unlock the doors. Also, the red LED on the mirror (is this what you refer to as the "Clown Nose") blinks when the car is locked with the FOB. Does my new car have the full alarm installed? Or is this standard for a factory set up? I did read the DIY thread on installing the alarm and it showed a sensor that installs in the overhead dome light unit. But my car's dome cover does not have open slots. I read where there is a bulletin on replacing this cover under warranty. So, do I have all the alarm coming to me? Thanks, Scott |
