What tyres for 8.5j fronts 9.5j rears?

Ok so ive asked a few people now and been reccomended a few sizes but there all VAG "super stretched tyre" fanboys.

I dont mind a tad bit of stretch. FRG reccomended 235/35 for the front and 265/30 rears. Anybody else running these sizes?

Would 225/35 and 255/30 rears be a bit too stretched?

Want to order some online tonight so quick replies would be awsome.

Cheers

Ollie

452s don't come in 255/30s last time i checked...

But yeh I'd go 225/35s and 255/30s on those widths

I was going to go 225/35 Front 452's and 255/30 Rear 453's. Would this be a bad match? heard O.K reviews of the 452s but not much about 453's?

Not heard much about the stretch on the 453s..

Another option is 215/35s and 225/35s rear... but you'll have some pretty poo conering lol

I wouldn't have thought you'd get any stretch on those sizes. Just look like correct sizes for width? ( orig op sizes)

Right ive settled on 225/35 front 453's and 255/30 rear 453's.

Not heard anything new about the 453s but people are generally happy with the 452s so hopefully they will be an improvement.

I will post pics up once fitted for people to see as its a minefield buying tyres.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Oh and mr.singh im soo envious of your Avant Gardes.

Now... Do i respray my wheels anthrecite before i fit them hmmmm...

I'm not a fan of stretched tyres at all. Considering the OEM fitment is 255 section tyres on an 8.5J wheel, I wouldn't want to go any narrower, let alone an inch narrower.

Look forward to seeing what you think of the 453s though.

Falkens do tend to run little narrower in general so you should have a little rounder shoulder.

My 235/35s and 265/30s shouldn't have stretch my Toyo TR-1s are even narrower and running 9s/10s means I have the look most have running 225s and 235s on 9s/10s.. You can have a semi stretch look, just need to find the narrowest in your tyre size

Post up pics when there mounted.. I wouldn't mind running 9.5x19s and 11x19s next

Jesus thats wide!

Keep me in mind if you sell the AG's

I think 255mm is around 10 inch wide so surely a 255 tyre should be fine on a 9.5" rim parapaul?

Likewise with the 225 isnt that about 9"? So on an 8.5" rim i should be fine? Or have a completely mis understood tyre sizes?

Mr.Singh i would be very happy if my tyres look anything like how yours do on the AG's

Ollie,

Ideal sizes for those widths are 235/35 and 265/30.

255 width is fine on a 9.5 wheel, but on an 8.5 width, the ideal size is 235. To keep the rolling radius correct with the 235/35, the rear size is then upsized to 265/30.

In saying that, if you have already purchase the 225/35 and 255/30, these will be fine to run, just a little bit of stretch on the fronts.

Chris.

8.5 = 216mm 9.5=241mm take into account of sidewall then it seems a good normal size for 225 for the 8.5 and 255 for the 9.5? correct me if i'm wrong

i run 8.5 and 9.5 with 235/265 452's and the rear looks a tad stretched!

i would assume then putting on a 255 rear would give you a little more, BUT as Mr.Singh said correctly it depends on the tyre you get as the 452's do run a little narrower

Standard wheel sizes for the 19" OEM wheels are 8J & 9J,shod with 225/35 &255/30 tyres.

So if you go with aftermarket wheels in 8.5J & 9.5J, it makes sense to go one tyre size up to 235/35 & 265/30.

Of course, some upsize on the standard wheels (235/265),mainly due to the popularity of Falken 452's and the fact that the 452's are/were unavailable in 255/30.

The other reason for upsizing came about when it was realised that Alpina fitted as standard the upsized tyre of 235/265.

Personally I ran 275/30 on a 9.5j rim.

Is this thread about normal sized tyres or stretched?
