Garage List
2001.5 Passat GLX V6  [10.00]
2007 328i  [10.00]
I just bought a 328i and I had them install the 18 inch rims as part of the deal to purchase the car. I don't find the ride that bad. My other car is a VW Passat and yes my BMW is a little harsher ride but mind you I have the sports package, 18inch rims, low profile tries and RFTs. The harsher ride in my opinion is not as bad as some people claim. I still love the car and the ride and handling in my opinion is amazing! It blows away my Passat! Regarding no spare I do some long distance (about 400km from my house) driving but in 25 years of driving I've only had about 3 or 4 flats so I'm not going to sweat it about not caring a spare. :-)

How do you deal with the lack of a spare.
I bought the "Continental Comfort Tire Repair kit" from TireRack.com for $87.50 incl. shipping. Now, it would still suck if I got a flat and had to use the tire repair kit, but at least I know I should be able to make it to a service ctr. or BMW dealer if I needed to; better than waiting 2+ hours for BMW Assist to send a tow truck.

To me, the benefits of having stickier, wider, non-RFTs (like the Mich. PS2s) over the oem stock RFTs outweigh the convenience and safety of the Bridgestone RFTs.

The insurance is equivalent to about 2.5 tires + balancing in cost (~$700) so I didn't get it. Also the run flat tires I think stick well to the road. Have had no problems with noise and harsh ride. Afterall it is a sprts/luxury car so it is gonna feel more harsh ride than say a Lincoln Towncar or luxury Mercedes my parents would drive but I like that and it's as expected not much of an issue to me. Obviously the RFT will last until you get to a gas station or can drive to a BMW dealer or tire shop to get the tire replaced (that what a runflat means...will last about 100 miles after failure of tire pressure) so not sure why you mention "getting stranded" in your post. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant. I have no second thoughts about it and LOVE the car (lack of spare and all). Hope this helps.
From my experience where you live makes a huge difference with RFTs. Bought my 335I Vert in Florida, Drove it for 1600 miles there. The RFT were fine, Decent ride, not noisy, good grip. Transported the car to NYC. It was virtually undrivable on NYCs horrible roads. Replaced the RFTs with Pirell P-Zero Nero M&S today. Car drives like it did in Florida.
