OK...I just picked up my 2009 e92 with hi-fi today and am selling my 2009 e90 with hi-fi.

I listened to music for the entire 3 hour drive home and I am certain that the hi-fi in the E92 sounds better than the un-modified hi-fi in my e90 did.

Is it possible the smaller cabin space and different positioning of the rear speakers has significantly improved the sound of an otherwise identical system?

Certainly possible, but it seems unlikely to me. Other things that might have changed: fade/balance and bass/treble settings. Are you sure those are all zeroed out (or otherwise, identical to your E90) for a scientific comparison?

I had the settings the same...bass +1 and treble +4. I was very surprised...I am thinking of selling my JL amp and just adding the sub/amp for now. This is a second hand cpo so maybe the last owner upgraded some things...I may try to get in touch with him.

I must be getting old, but to me my Hi-Fi sounds pretty good, no need to make any changes. Each his own.
