COTA Track prep
I am headed to Circuit of the Americas with MVPTrackTime Feb 1-3. 3 days on the sweet new track should put the ol 335XI to the test. I have almost 60k miles so I am a bit nervous. Here is what I have done and am planning to do to prep the car.
Car already has- AST 4100's Vorshlag plates STETT Stg II OC Cobb AP M3 Strut brace Here are new mods in prep of this event and going forward- 1- Brand new Apex ARC-8 17x9 square setup 2- Brand new Nitto NT-01 255/40/17 square 3- StopTech Power slot rotors x 4 4- PFC 08 pads x 4 (should hold up well even agter 3 days) Prep work- Oil change- Motul Brake Flush - Motul 600 Alignment (pending) Tech Inspect (pending) I probably should change the diff oil, but I don't think I have time/money to get it done. Due to the high speeds on the track, I am concerned about braking the most. I wish I had SS lines, but again running short of time/money.

Intake and exhaust solenoids, if you haven't done them in a while. New diverter valve, and charge pipe (since you have oem), replace all vaccum hoses with new silicone vaccum hoses.

I'd make sure your lower-boost maps are ready to go on your AP in case you run into ignition/heat issues.
I'd also pick up a few spare ignition coils, and a spare set of spark plugs. I plan on bringing a spare vanos solenoid with me in case that starts acting up. That covers all the typical crap. The SS lines would affect the brake feel, but shouldn't affect the performance at all. If you're getting an alignment right before the event, I'd slam them down to whatever you can tolerate negative camber wise. With NT01's, maybe 3.3-3.4 degrees negative? Given how much back & forth is at COTA, you'll probably want a tad bit of toe out in the front too. HAVE FUN! ![]() |

I have never changed plugs/ coils or solenoids myself. Not sure I would know how to do it. I know plugs run about $20 per. What do the coils/ solenoids cost?

Coils are about $40 each from ECS Tuning (get the Bosch ones, same as OEM) I have 3 of these in my toolbox, never know. The Vanos solenoid is about $100, and you can put a solenoid in either the intake or exhaust VANOS solenoid spot. So you only need one spare. Although you can replace both simultaneously if you want. I don't know if you're going to have any issues with these, but when they go bad they'll stifle your track day. Typically they'll start throwing codes when they get nice and hot in the track environment. I'd also look at running 80/20 or pure water in your radiator if you're having any heat issues. |

I run one bottle of MoCool in the radiator. Since I began that with the Stett OC, I haven't had any issues (kow) with heat. Plus it will be early feb, so that will help. Thanks for the tiips. I have run many track days before, but going three straight days with a high overhead expense I want to troubleshoot all I can.

Pretty sure I will have fun. I went ahead and ordered some plugs and coils. Thanks for the input. We need to meet sometime at MSR.

You might want to re-think this given our fragile water pump bearings. He's already up there in miles, and running such a low amount of coolant could be all she wrote.

Your PFC 08's should easily last more than 3 days. I have 20 days on my 06's, and the fronts are now worn down (rears are still have left!). Don't sweat the SS lines, I'd be more concerned with fresh hi temp brake fluids.

I was shooting photos at The Driver's Edge event at COTA. It was a blast! I will be there for MVP as well. Some video footage from the last event.
M3s and 1M. And some Porsche GT3RSs :P

Car is ready and prepped. Weather this weekend in Austin looks stellar- high 72 each day with no rain at all in 10 day forecast.
