Email as RSS in Connected iDrive
Hi, I did search for this and nothing came up but I have made my Business nav show emails in the RSS News Feed...
I have a UK Spec 2009 LCI E90 fitted (from Factory) with Business Nav, Bluetooth, Voice Command and I subscribe to ConnectedDrive (£120 per year) I can (from my home PC) administer RSS feeds as 'news' channels to display in the car, up to 10. This got me thinking that if I could get emails viewed as RSS then surely the car would just display this information - in short it can and it does. I do not advocate using the screen whilst driving nor emailing outside of your Cororate IT policy. So I have about three priate email accounts in my home Outlook email system. I also have a GMail Account as I'm a Google User. Step 1. I found an Email to RSS (free) application through Google. http://emails2rss.appspot.com/help/g...tup/index.html Step 2. I decided for ease to forward all Emails to GMail from Outlook - In Outlook I created a simple rule that forwards emails (without attachments) to Gmail and applied the rule to all Accounts. I then checked this worked, applied the rule on all existing emails, and it work, all emails are consolodated in GMail. Step 3. I created an email bridge in "Emails2RSS" basically linking Gmail to an RSS feed address. Step 4. Then I took this address (from Emails 2RSS) and added it as a Forward Rule in Gmail. The idea is that all emails in Gmail then appear as an RSS feed. Step 5. Add this newly created RSS feed on your BMW ConnectedDrive home page under Edit My News and call it Inbox. Step 6. Trott out to your car, login to your Account Under 'online services' and go to News>My News>scroll down you'll now see Inbox>Clicking this will display text versions of emials. Its not perfect and I get a lot of rouge HTML but hey it worked. Someone on here with better IT Skills than me might have a slicker solution, basically it would be nice to get the text wrapping displayed as per the in-built News feeds currently in the car. Let me know your thoughts and comments. Cheers Simon |

I sometimes find it useful to view emails on the move or have them read to me by the Pro Nav.
