Relocation of 12V from center console ashtray to panel

Howdy ladies and gents,

I have on order an "oddments tray" which I plan to install in place of the ashtray on my 2008 E90. Some folks have indicated that some cars have had thei consoles built with the tray, and the 12V power point was relocated by BMW to a side panel somewhere (same general area.

My question is has anyone who installed their oddments tray also attempted the 12V power point relocation, too? Otherwise, I'll just tie off the 12V point safely and live without it (and probably install the rear console panel adding them there!).

Did the tray but did not try power outlet. To much hassle to take out original lighter.

That's part 2 of 2 for my central console, which restores a 12V at least somewhere, if the replacement further upfront isn't worth the effort or cost. That looks nice, with either the drawer down below, or just the open shelf.

Very cool info! Do you happen to have the p/n? Do you think the wiring harness is long enough to feed the new trim panel?

I haven't done the back of the console yet, I've just been living with the 12V in the armrest, which is somewhat annoying because it's not hot at all times, it switches off with ignition power. I don't remember if the ashtray 12V is switched or hot all the time.

Check the DIY pages for rear seat outlets, shows how to, and part #'s.
