I have this too, but I don't think it's a big deal. I think it's just normal cold valve train sound.

Yours is likely a different issue...N52 can have ticking from the valve lifters, which is NOT normal.

I vote lifter(s), normal for them to be intermittently noisy with one causing a tick at about 3-4hz. so long as it goes away it's most likely fine. If it's loud, always apparent, look into it.
See syndicateGT's long thread on his lifter issues. Ended up being easy and inexpensive according to his post.

See my horror story here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=667559 Thought it was a spun rod bearing....turned out to be a bad lifter. Not as hard or expensive to fix as a rod bearing but will still cost a pretty penny out of pocket. This was the knock coming from my engine (try to listen past the injector tick when I pull the camera away):

My vote is for you to go to BMW ASAP, that clungging sound is not normal!
It almost seems that you have a tool loose in your engine! A car from 2012 is still on warranty... so... do what you have to do!

Don't worry guys this is normal and I have the same sound for the first 2 minutes, then it goes away. I believe is coming from these here:
"This is pretty common on cars that sit for extended periods. It is caused by the oil draining out of the oil-hydraulic VANOS valve gear. It takes a few moments for the oil to come back into the system, and it shouldn't be a problem, just let the engine warm until it stops ticking before driving it hard. I have also heard that using a thicker oil can help cure this. There is a Mobil 1 synthetic oil used in the Porsche motor that is 10-50W, which might be a good alternative to the BMW suggested 10-30W." |

I have the exact same issue on my 2008 320i. It is when the car is warmed, only at idle, and from the right side, like in the film and it can't be heard from the cabin...Is this normal? I am really worried |

Yea is normal, hydraulic valve lifters, like AltecBX said on the OP I didnt have any problem,so dont worrie,I know how u feel, when I first bought my car I was scared, but this is normal... on less is something like super loud like pistons or lifters going bad or something, but if is like this on the video,is normal.
