If you want to take your car to the track!

Okay guys! If you live in California or Nevada and have not taken your car to the track yet here is THE event for you!

On October 6 & 7th The LA Chapter of the BMW Car Club is having a driving school and car control clinic! This is the first car control clinic I have seen them do since my first school in 1999. You will be able to take your car and learn how it drives. They suggest you use the car you drive the most often. You will be able to do things like go through an autocross.

CAR CONTROL CLINIC COURSE CURRICULUM Exercises will include emergency response procedures, ABS familiarization, a slalom course, skid pad and other handling exercises. This is designed for the driver who wants to be more
comfortable with their car and be safer on the road.

This is an AWESOME way to start out and see if you like the driving schools! It gives you the chance to learn what you can handle and your car! When you go beyond your limits (believe me the car is better than you) you will learn how to control a slide and if you mess up all you will get into is a cone that will not make a lasting empression on your car!

Then if you do well on the first day you can do the second day of the driving school on the big track at a reduced price!

These events are frequently described as the most fun you can have with your clothes on! I know so many of you enjoy your cars but have not really experienced the thrill of putting your car on the track! This is a good controled environment as safe as possible where you can learn and then go on to really have some fun. Also this is a BMW club so MOST of the cars there will be BMW's. More people to hang out with and talk cars! Once you try this you WILL be hooked!

The ONLY warning here is that this is NOT the place to race your friends. The driving schools are NOT timed events and especially when you are on the track it is VERY important to listen to the instructors. If you go out trying to beat your buddy you are going to start out behind the eight ball and that is a quick road to a messed up car. But if you have an open mind and are up for a TON of fun its a GREAT learning experience! Come join us!!!

Link is here: http://www.bmwclubla.org/calendar.php Look under October 6&7 there are two entries. One for just the driving school and one for the car control clinic.

Hope to see some of you there!

I've been wanting to get to one of these since I joined BMWCCA, but I can't find a qualifying helemt other than on the internet, and I gotta try one on before I spend $3-500!!! My motorcycle helmet doesn't have the Snell rating for fire (not a normal threat on the motorcycle)

Actually for the Car Control Clinic they aren't requiring a helmet! Plus it's only $100 for the day!
Got to be the safest and easiest way to get into this. Of course for day 2 you would need a helmet. But I used a motorcycle helmet with this group for years. Don't know if they still allow it but you could always send them an email.

ALL THESE CLASSES ARE INTENDED TO INPROVE YOUR DRIVING SKILLS. They are conducted on secured closed circuits, supervised by trained instructors. Holding schools on a closed venue eliminates all outside influences, resulting in a safer learning environment. You can’t change the driving habits of the people around you on the highways, but you can learn how to keep yourself safer around them.

HELMETS (Snell 2000 or later) and SEAT BELTS are required at all times for driving school and AST students. Helmets are optional but encouraged for Car Control Clinic students. A limited number of loaner helmets are available. Passenger seat restraints must be equal to, or better than, driver seat restraints.

Hmm. I need to look into this. Probably clear bra my car soon to do this. Think I should remove my lip, have them clearbra everything except the lip. Then cb the lip.

Not to make this a clear bra thread, but why not just have them clear bra it together with your front end? Don't know if it makes sense to do it seperately.

Well, if I ever need to take off the front lip (see: low and if it gets damaged), then taking it off the bumper would ruin the clear bra on the bumper. Kinda-OT, it is "track prep."

You need something along the lines of the G-Force GF750. It's not the sexiest helmet, but it's SA2005 rated and only 149.99 from shops like this one:

http://www.racerwholesale.com/index....8c655412594b94

I have that helmet. Works great and is priced right as well. I usually have a hard time fitting hats and helmets because my head is a little oblong front to back. This helmet conformed to my head shape very well. It was a snug fit without being uncomfortable.

I don't see where on the form there's an option for the $100 Car Control Clinic.

You're right. There's two sets of forms.

Remind me to talk to you more about this tomorrow. Thanks!

For those of you who have been sitting on the fence about this because of a helmet I just asked them about what you need.

For the Car Control Clinic - Saturday only - They are not requiring a helmet. It is strongly recomended but not required.

For the Sunday driving school and subsequet driving schools you do need a helmet but it does NOT need to be an auto racing helmet. You CAN have a motorcycle helmet as long as it is DOT approved and says M00 or M05 in it. Absolutely none of the "black upside dwon bowl things".

Hope to see you there!

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me!

You should go and check it out. Do the after track dinner too. Good time to wind down.

I just had to cancel. My replacement car won't be in until the second half of Sept. so I won't have time to properly break it in by Oct 6. Think I'll go hang out and watch though. Love the smell of burning 100 octane, brakes and tires. I also want to get some track wheel and tire combo ideas. Currently thinking Kosei K3 18x8.5 and Toyo 888s but I'm sure that will change a few more times.
