Positive battery terminal

So I apparently hit something that kinda messed up the 200amp cable that runs from the positive terminal of the battery to the engine. The dealership says its a 13 hour job!! And the part is around 300ish. All said and done it would cost over 2k! Anyone ever replace this cable before? Can i splice it and repair the damaged part of the cable? Car runs fine but the shrinkwrap is ripped and some wires are exposed. They put electrical tape around it until I can get it fixed. Any thoughts?

Ouch. That may be covered by your insurance.

There is a recall being issued for the cable actually.
Bring it to a different dealer for the recall and act stupid?

BMW plans to replace the positive battery cable connector, not the cable itself. The OP's problem was clearly caused by damage.

This. Beware though, depending your insurer and the circumstances of how this happened, it will likely fall under your collision coverage and may be deemed as an at fault accident for rating purposes. ( i.e, you ran over something) You will have to pay the deductible amount yourself to BMW, your insurer will pay the rest.

Just tell them the object you hit was still moving when you did, then it's not your fault.

Cool thanks, I wont be lying either because I am 99% sure it was a possum lol.

Its just a copper cable with shrink wrap around it. and I replaced the bottom cover yesterday. It happened almost a year ago and I havent had any problems and its been exposed for that long so I dont feel an urgency to replace it.
