335i, vented hood, oil temps

Anyone with a 335i, who changed to a vented hood notice their oil temps go down?

Not sure there is a vented hood out for the coupe yet, but the vorsteinner hood for the e90 has been out for a while.

If not, you think that it would make a difference?

DOn't kow about the hood, but at my break in oil change (1500 miles) I used mobile1 0w-40 and my operating temps dropped 10-12 degrees even though it was the hottest day of the summer here yesterday (99).

With the Vorsteiner hood at least, oil temperature should remain steady. The main advantage to the hood is that it allows heat to escape which prevents heat soak which you may notice bogs down the vehicle throughout the rev range. This is especially advantageous for track use or hot weather.

How much does it cost? Do you have pics of it?

Yes, Seibon just released their E92 vented hood. I know excatly what you mean, I am hoping this vented hood disipates some heat from the engine.

My previous car (Evo) had a fantastic disipation of heat in the matter of aluminium fenders, aluminium hood and big vent in the hood. I never had any issues with overheating.

To be honest, I was a bit dissapointed with BMW engineering, it really does not take much to do some fender vents or even a hood vent.

Anyway, here is the link to the E92 vented hood I opened yesterday:

By the way, would you like to be part of a group buy? we only need 5 people to get this hood for $764 shipped(vented CF hood)

Honestly, guys... wait for the Vorsteiner. Only Vorsteiner offers dry woven vacuum technology. Only Vorsteiner has flawless fitment, guaranteed. Only Vorsteiner has unlimited customization options. Only VORSTEINER is track tested and street proven. You paid more to drive a BMW, put only the finest parts on it... even if you don't buy it from us, I say go Vorsteiner all the way.

I wonder if side vents, like the M3, would help with cooling the turbos, and #5 and #6? I don't know what the air flow path looks like through that side, but it would seem to help, along with this hood.

Lets face it, BMW did a fantastic job fitting a electrical water pump that feeds the turbos after the engine is cutoff thus eliminating the need of a turbo timer.

On a contrasting note, they should have place a little opening on the fender. They did that on other BMW series that really don't need it as much. The 335I needs better cooling.

Seibon is garbage, I wouldn't even put a Seibon hood on a winter beater.

Now when you say "unlimited customization options" do you mean that if you dont like the vent shape and placement, that they will make a hood however you want?

Did you wait got the vorsteiner hood or go with the seibon? If you went with the seibon, what's your opinion. I really want a vented hood, but I'm not sure how much longer I want to wait for Vorsteiner.
