Dealer Damaged Steering Wheel
So I have had my E90 2009 335i for 4 years now. My first BMW and I baby it like crazy. I only have 21,000 miles on it in 4 years too.
Yesterday I took the car in for some service. In the process of showing the rep the seatbelt issue in the back seat I noticed he jumped in my drivers seat on his knees leaning over to the back to see. Was annoyed but didn't say anything. When I came back to get the car I found the damage done by his boots hitting and adding two half inch scuffs to my leather, heated, sports steering wheel! I told him about it and he looked at it and the stitching and said you know I can order the parts and have this re-wrapped. I was stoked! But now I'm a bit concerned. Is this "re-wrap" going to use the same OEM quality leather, with the same grain, same feel, same thickness? Is it going to be as tight and quality fit as it is stock? I custom ordered this car from Germany. What about the heating elements. I called and left a message. Hmm...should I let them do this or am I asking for it? Thx.

I would just use this as an excuse to upgrade to a Mtech/M3 wheel, not sure about heat though, I don't know if their is a heated version of those wheels.
If you don't already have Msport and your taking about the stock sport package wheel, its shit quality anyway. |

I'm actually a fan of my current steering wheel. Understated yet thick and substantial with a nice feel. If this isn't going to be like stock I may force them to just replace it entirely. Here is a pic of my current steering wheel.

Haha I'm sure the M wheel is nice....but I don't like the colored stitching and wouldn't want to lose the heated steering wheel. We shall see what happens...

Its' a BMW dealership. And my rep said they have a sort of "Make a Wish" fund he could dip into for it.

I wouldn't worry about it, let them try to make it right. They damaged trim on my b pillar and fixed it out of their pocket. Just be assertive and they will fix it. Can you post pics of damage?

Thanks for the encouragement. The service is scheduled for next Wednesday. Driving around today I am noticing that they are much less pronounced now. After wiping away the excess gashed material it's very subtle and without close inspection or knowledge of them they could pass for a leather crease. Debating if it's worth it now. However there are a few other marks that have been there since day one so maybe a fresh one will be nice and I should let them make it right. Good to hear you have had a good experience with such in the past.
