The old runflats thing again

One of the most talked about subjects on here and I'm adding to it.

I've always been a bit sceptical to how much difference changing tyres can make since the aspect ratio on 19" tyres is only 30/35.

I opted for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres based on the reviews others had given and the rating system which rated the grip better, noise levels lower and the fuel economy better than the Continental 5ps.

The car is absolutely miles better than before.

Apparently noise levels are 69 and 70dB apposed to the 74dB of the previous runflats.

However in reality the noise levels are significantly noticeable.

The ride is far more compliant and smoother. Significantly noticeable within seconds and gets better with miles.

Grip levels are far better too. Messing about earlier it was easy to put the power down in 1st year without much drama.

The only thing I don't like is the tyres, with the rim protection, look ugly on the rims.

They appear to look significantly bigger and chunkier which then seems to shrink an inch off the wheels.

Overall though they made a massive difference to the driving experience of the car.

It might be another non-run flat review, but I'm very interested in this as I'm on the verge of swapping out my tyres to non-runflats, so good info for me.
I too have been looking at getting Continental 5ps or Michelin Pilot Sport 3's, however there seems much better reviews around for the Asymmetric 2's so I too think will go for these also.

They were only fitted on Thursday and I've done nothing yet.

I will just be buying a compressor and gunge kit from Eurocarparts and crossing my fingers.

I've only ever had 2 punctures in all my years driving and hope it stays the same.

The difference is huge and you can feel it right away.

Why did BMW make such a mess of it?

Runflat tyres were awful when the girlfriend had the Mini Cooper too with far higher profile. They were rough and sent the rumble through the car too.

So bad are Runflats that BMW have had to add active suspension to make the handling and ride acceptable.

Decibel

Bear in mind that Decibel is a logarithmic scale, and 3dB represents a doubling of sound pressure level.....so +5 dB is more than twice as loud...and will be clearly noticable

To be fair, I dont think most owners of a new F30 do not have a problem with runflats, however, BMW are now fitting the more expensive Bridgestone Potenza S001 rather then the old Bridgestone Potenza RE050A as fitted to our E9X's. So I can only assume that the S001 is a next generation run flat so better than before.

Anyway, I've just checked with my insurance Direct Line and they have no problem with me fitting non-run flats so I'm off to buy some today.
Need to flog the front two run flats when they come off as there is still life in them.

Bit disappointing that my current OEM rear runflats have only lasted just under 12K miles. However this gives me the excuse to buy some non-run flats
