BMW Crash in Arlington

I hope this wasn't someone from the forum. I heard it was an '08 BMW 3 Series (going 80-90 MPH over the Key Bridge).

Incorrect. It was a 2008 BMW M5. You can even tell it's an M5 from the link you just posted - did you not look at it?

Washington post says so as well:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...b8d4_blog.html

And you can tell by the rims in the pic - they are the type that go on a e60 M5
http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/lo...196755151.html

---

either way, RIP.

This is always bound to happen when you give young kids expensive cars with alot of horsepower, they magically think their professional racecar drivers.

Condolences to his family and hope the passengers of this incident make a full recovery.

RIP to those in the car…I'm struggling to think of what he hit on the Key Bridge though. If he's headed from M street towards VA, it's a pretty straight shot unless he tried to get onto the GW Parkway right after the bridge. I can't tell from the pictures which curb he it, does anyone have more info? Obviouly 90mph on the key bridge is not the wisest move, but it's not a particularly tricky stretch of road when empty. Some serious driver error must have been involved.

The turn from the Key Bridge that takes you to 66 is kind of sharp. That would be the way back to Leesburg. I can see him hitting that curb and going flying, especially at 90. That picture looks like that scenario was possible, as the bridge is directly behind him.

Agreed, that seems the most likely...Also, I wasn't thinking about the roads after the bridge at 90mph, most time I go over it i'm idling through the lights in traffic. You can't cheat physics folks

Yeah, the turn coming through the stoplight is a bit tight/surprising if you're hauling ass. I work 2 blocks from there.

More detailed Washington Post article. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/...inglePage.html

And according to the article, I'm thinking he clipped the left curb of the road here and the car flipped towards the right side.

I'm trying to feel sorry for the family (I actually do), but in his case I'm glad he killed himself before he killed someone else. 90mph in Georgetown? Jeezz....

That "sharp" right as soon as the bridge ends... it sneaked up on me a couple of times... even though I know its there. Key Bridge goes straight and it's fairly wide. I deff understand why people get that "i'm on a racetrack" feeling. You can pic you some decent speed on it, but unless you start breaking well in advance of your "natural" instinct, there is no way you can react to that turn @ 90mph.
An irresponsible 21 yo and an M5 is not the best combination, but what does it matter now...
