Power steering problem E92
Hi all,
Over the past few days I've developed a steering problem where I notice much less steering response and more wandering/tramlining. For example, driving slowly in a parking lot, I can now turn the wheel 180 degrees to either side and still practically drive in a straight line. The dead-center tactile steering point on the steering wheel also seems to migrate a few degrees to either side as I drive. Overall, a given steering input now causes much less actual turn. I also notice that when I lock the steering column completely counter-clockwise to the left the normal hydraulic bleed-off sound that appears is now much louder, especially at cold start. I haven't hit any potholes, and the only thing I did to the car was put my summer tires back on last week, but the car drove normally for several days after putting the summer tires on before this problem developed. There is not an increased resistance when actually turning the steering wheel, and there are no lights or codes. The steering wheel does not pull when driving, and there are no rhythmic vibrations while driving. The tires are properly inflated. The car: 2010 E92 N54 49xxx mi, 6MT, rear-drive. The wandering/tramlining became pronounced enough while driving that I felt unsafe at highway speeds and dropped it off at the dealer. Any ideas??? |
