Anyone rebuilt their alternator?
I have a 2007 E90 328i w/ 6MT (should be the 140A alternator since I don't have AT).
It's making a whine most noticeably heard bouncing off of curbs and walls at 1500-2000 rpm - high pitched, consistent with the small pulley installed on the alternator, sounds like an old-school turbo. I'm having trouble convincing my third part warranty (up in 2 weeks) that there's actually an issue since the mechanic I'm using (I usually DIY everything but need to extract value from this warranty) can't adequately demonstrate a problem that the assessor really thinks is a problem. At any rate, I'm not sure that it's bad enough to throw away the whole alternator as opposed to replacing the bearings and brushes and buttoning it back up myself. I had DIYs and parts lists for past bimmers, but haven't really seen anything for the E90. Last edited by Surly73; 04-17-2013 at 01:57 PM.. |
