Recent security 'update'...
Hi everyone
Strange one this, my car recently had the security update whilst in for other work. I tested once home, and sure enough the windows did not go down whilst holding the blade key fully to the right. That's what the fix was, or so I thought. Car has been back in since for egr valve replacement. Don't know what made me try today (but glad I did) key in the door, turned right and hold, and all the windows and roof open??!! WTF... Could it be the dealer has put the software back to the pre-update version? Will get it back to them later this week hopefully for them to check. Luckily I have the cooks ferry OBD mod so they can't clone a key! Cheers Garry |

Interesting .... might be worth others who've had the "Security Update" done and subsequently been back to a dealer seeing if the update is still there or been wiped.
Let us know what happens !! |

Well, after work i dropped into Sytner to book a service and a couple of other issues needed looking at,
Mentioned the security update and confirmed with the service advisor my car had been updated. Imagine their surprise when i demonstrated the windows dropping with the key... Anyhow, he was pleased i bought it to their attention and said it would be reported back up the chain. Agreed the fix would be re-installed when its in for service next month. So, for anyone thats had the update followed by another dealer visit, its probably worth a check to see if its still 'fixed'..!! Garry |

Daft question time.....
I was told my car didn't need the upgrade in security as it was pre 2008 car. think it was built at the start of 07. I can open and close my windows using the fob, does this mean i need the update?? |

Loads been written on the older cars needing the update, BMW saying they dont, owners saying they do. Not sure to be honest. I guess you could pay for it, again not sure how much they would fleece you for the privelage...

Car has now been back for service & they 're-applied' the security update whilst there. Checked windows now dont roll down, and they dont so i can only assume its back to how it should be.
The other thread on here suggests OBD thefts are still happening but i thought late last year it had all died down.... Due to BMW's fix which meant the original key had to be present in order to clone a new one. Does anyone know if a 'fixed' car has been taken via the OBD cloning method?? Garry |
