My first day with Capitol non-rft!

After a nail on the edge of the n/s/f put paid to my 8month old run flat, I decided to get 4x non run flats. I went for Kwik Fits' Capitol Eco 007 225/45 R17 94W on my LCI 330d SE. Wow. Quieter, slightly sharper and the car rides better. For £306 inc valves balancing and disposal.
I went looking for pot-holes on the road I use for work. They have finally been filled in and repaired - today. Great.
Informed my insurace of the change to non RFT, they said yup, thats fine, no probs.
According to the door sticker, the old RFT tyres needed 2.5bar (36psi)front, 3.0 bar (43psi) rear.
The guy I spoke to said with the tyre side walls being softer, he thought perhaps a little more air in each?
To those of you that have made the change - any guidance please??

That's a lot of power to put through non brand tyres mate, not sure I'd have gone with them!

As for pressures, it's not the sidewall that supports the car, it's the air pressure. As long as the tyres are the same size etc, just inflate them to oem spec.

I suppose Op wants to drift at every given opportunity or power slide out of junctions hence the decision for that. have fun op!!

Rubbish tyres on a powerful expensive car = crazy madness!!

Spend a few quid more and get something decent.

At the end of the day it's upto the op/ owner what tyres he would like. He has bought them now so hardly worth saying should have bought a decent set. Besides not everyone will need a decent tyre, some do just drive like miss daisy.

I also changed from run flats this week and the car is loads nicer! Smooth on the road quiter and not crashy in potholes! So for me it's a positive gain.

Enjoy the nicer ride quality

I do drive a little like Miss Daisy - i doubt I will ever reach 155mph, or maybe not 0-60 in 6.1.

I confine myself to a little spirited overtaking or leaving behind a tailgating Corsa....

A set of 4 tyres is a lot of ££££. They look ok from the new tyre regulation declaration, getting an "A" for braking. I thought I would give them a go, and report back to the forum later. So far, Im pleased with them.

At one time no-one would buy a Korean car, but the latest Hyundai offering seems quite good....

Having paid £150+ for a tyre that was written off after 8 months, and witnessing the orig Bridgestone RFT wearing out prematurely on the edges of the tyres after a woefully short number of miles, im scarred!!
Even the wheel locking nut key thing sheared off into 2 pieces this time.
And the windscreen is too soft and scratches and chips easily.
Sorry. Rant over.

The tyre pressure supports the car. But is this not skewed by a run flat, when it will support a car with no air in the tyre?
I am still very interested to know what tyre pressures you guys decided on when you changed to non run-flats.

On 19's non rfts I run 2.5 upfront and 2.7 at the rear. Used to run 2.7 front and 2.9 rear but was to hard for my liking. I got conti 5p up front and good year assym 2 at the back

Ignore those tyre ratings. The tyre companies rate their own tyres so there's no standard. An A rated Pirelli is going to be better in all ways (bar cost) than an A rated Nankang!

Fair play for trying something different.
Five years ago many here would have said Kumho or Falken were crap

FWIW I kept to the plated pressures exactly changing to non RFT.
It worked fine, even on the track. (Falken 452, one size over)

Many thanks. I intend to report back in the future, regarding these tyres. They could work out to be rubbish, but so far, I have to say I am very pleased with them. I regret not changing sooner, and with hindsight to a well known brand. Early days.

Will try plated pressures first.

I took the Conti winter's off last week it's all come back how much I hate the Bridgestone RFTs, the suspension is much harder & the steering follows every white lines & undulation in the tarmac - it's horrible. Needless to say I'm looking to ditch the RFTs in favour of some decent regular rubber but somehow, I don't think I'll be going down the KwikFit route. Good luck with the Capitol Eco 007's but I'll be looking at Conti & Goodyear et al

The puncture forced me to act quickly - get yet another run flat or change all 4 to non rft. With more time (and savings) I would have plumped for a well known brand. £150+ for a Continental tyre that lasted 8 months with 7mm tread left really hurt me!!

The Bridgestone RFT have not done much to improve brand BMW! Premature wear etc? In a brand like BMW? And they are sticking with them?

If I have any problems with my Capitols I will let everyone know. But as mentioned previously, Im no speed demon.....
