Older VS Newer Injectors
I called my local dealership to get an idea of how much injectors cost. I was asked which ones I needed (new (new engineering design) or old part numbers). The difference in price between the two is about $100.
I was wondering if anyone here can confirm that the new injectors indeed work better? Should I buy the older ones to save some money? Also, I asked the price to get the injectors coded. I was told that they didn't need to be coded...? I'm not sure if the advisor I spoke to was very knowledgable...Has anyone put in new injectors without getting them coded? |

All new injectors must be coded. I have injectors some of which are 65k miles and 5 yrs old, that are working flawlessly... I run e85 mix occasionally...
Use your judgement. Maybe the new ones are better, but most of the older ones seem to be fine. |

Supposedly you can't mix old and new... Makes no sense to me. Maybe you can try it out and report back

where can you get new old part no. injectors? I need one for #6 and really don't want to have to pay for all six new and coding esp. since I can't seem to find anyone but dealership who wants to help me
thanks! |

They're printed on the injectors. You have to take them out. |

I got that, where are the old ones available for sale? My local dealer and ECS are only selling the new style. I definitely need one of the old ones unless I want to replace all six - I don't have the part no. handy but it's the one before the latest revision, I have confirmed that. thanks!

I just called another local dealership and he said that the stock of 13-53-7-585-261 (that's the injectors that I have in my car now; the current part no. is 13-53-8-616-079) had been depleted nationwide... OP, if you have a source I would be grateful if you'd help me out. Just need one!
The guy that joec500 posted about sold his right before he read my PM ![]() If I go the used injector route, how do I replace the Teflon seals? It appears that some BMW special tools are required (according to the shop manual) and I can't seem to find an online source for them, is there a workaround using commonly available hand tools? I will try calling the SA at Tischer (yes, I'm quasi-local to them) that I spoke to on Friday and see if they'll install used parts for me but I don't know how cool they will be with that. Haven't had any luck finding an indy who will call me back! OP, sorry about jacking your thread. If this goes on any longer I'll start a new one. Last edited by N8N; 04-22-2013 at 08:14 AM.. |

fwiw. I put in a used injector once when I wanted to test solutions for a misfire. I just left the old teflon seal on there and replaced the decoupling element gasket and it's been fine ever since.
New injectors are the way to go if you can find them. |
