White smoke?
I was driving my car a couple days ago and I look in my rearview mirror and see clouds of smoke coming out of my exhaust that smelt horrible. It was literally clouds of smoke coming out my exhaust and my service engine soon light was flashing on and off while driving. The car was vibrating when I was pulled over. I turned it on and off to see what would happen and I was lightly revving the car and every time i revved it thick white smoke came out. I really thought it was my turbos that blew but I have it at the dealer right now and my service guy is saying that its my injectors. I just want to make sure that its the real cause and there not bsing me. Thanks for your help.

generally:
black = fuel (running rich) blue ish = oil white = coolant sometimes hard to tell if it's white or blue ish describe the smell? if it didnt smell like coolant it was probably oil... sorta doesn't make sense that injectors would cause massive clouds of smoke like that... what was his reasoning ?

The smoke was bluish. It smelt horrible. And he gave me no reasoning to why it was the injectors so thats what made me question that because I dont think the injectors would cause that.

i encountered similar problem with my 535xi ( same n54 engine ) car started to run very rough and lots of smoke. took it to the dealer and they diagnosed that the car was running very rich and the bank one injectors were bad. they replaced all 3 on bank one. my android obd reader gave some codes that i googled and were pointing towards bad injectors.
my car is 2008 model and had 57 k miles on it,so out of manufacturer warranty but the manager called bmw and they replaced the injectors for free. since this problem is causing emission and more pollution it should be covered under federal emissions warranty anyways. bmw emission warranty is till 80k miles i believe. talk to them and try to get them covered under warranty even if you are out of warranty. As the above post said.
White = open injector. ... Mine did this in Jan. Rough idle and white smoke which is unburned fuel hitting hot cat. Do not run the car call BMW assist and have the car towed before you kill your cats. |
