QUESTION: Does E90 alarm go off if glass breaks?

Subject says it all. I have searched but cannot find the answer. I have a 2006 325i without an alarm. I see there is a DIY to retrofit the factory alarm with relatively little effort. I am considering buying the parts and retrofiting my car with the alarm.

I'd imagine the alarm protects (will sound) if the doors are opened or the hood is opened; however, does it sound if the windows are broken?

Yes it does, well I've never tried but there are sensors in the car to detect any interior movement, can be disabled with the car key when you leave mamy in your car for example.

My understanding is that there is no "shock" or "vibration" alarm but it will trip the alarm if glass falls inside the cabin as there is an internal ultrasound sensor to detect cabin motion. Other sensors include tilt (someone lifting car into flatbed truck) and door/hood/trunk switch sensors.

If you install the alarm... BE SURE TO MAKE THE DEALER REPLACE the ceiling dome light cover to the SLOTTED version... otherwise the motion sensor won't work. I just had this done... and I cannot find the replacement part anywhere... and even having trouble getting one from local dealers.

Motion sensor will not detect a glass breakage.

A glass break sensor has a microphone and "listens" to the specific audio signature of breaking glass, which the OEm alarm doesn't have.

Even a shock sensor will not detect glass breakage if it is broken with a pointy object, which most thieves do. If someone throws a brick to a window, it might set off a shock sensor.
