extended maintenance is it worth it?
my zero cost maintenance is expiring within the next week or two. i believe i got quoted around 17-800. i was wondering what your experiences are once your maintenance has expired and how much youve paid out of pocket to maintain your 335s. im thinking its worth it for another 2yrs to pay for the extension. also if i do decided to extend it, can i do so anytime after expiration or need to do it within a certain time period after it expires? thanx for all the help and input in advance!!

Two years of extended maintenance pretty much boils down to 1 or 2 oil changes ($70-80 each if you do it yourself and use the good stuff, call it $130 if you go to the dealer), and MAYBE a brake job ($500?), plus two sets of wiper blades. Seems like a waste. I passed when I bought my 335d.

Only worth it if you put a lot of miles on your car.
Check your maintenance history over the past 2 years and see how many times you changed oil, brakes, fluids, etc. If you have not gotten brakes done at all (quite possible and normal on low millage cars), check to see if cost of installing those vs cost of maintenance plan. Maybe you'd be better off with the plan. |

Just had my 07 E92 335 in for final maintenance along with the Power Connector recall work. I have 59500 miles on it and they did oil/filter, cabin filter, Front brake pads & discs. That one service probably would have cost what I paid for the extended maintenance plan when I bought the car as a CPO.

If you add it before your 4yr/50k mile factory warranty is over you save $200. That being said, it's also a good idea because the MP upgrade starts as soon as the factory warranty is over anyway so in order to take FULL advantage of it buy it ASAP..

I think "is it worth it" is mostly a function of "what is your time worth" .If you go to Indy or DIY , you will save lots of money. If you have a high paying job and work 50plus hours, it might be worth the concierge treatments provided by the dealer.

If it was "worth it" to you, they wouldn't make any money on it. ANY plan (warranty, maintenance, alligator insurance, whatever) is more likely to pay off for "them" than it is for "you", or they wouldn't be in the business of selling them.

Dude, it is not worth it for you, but worth it for BMW. It doesn't matter how quickly you rack up mileage, the car will need two, possibly three, oil changes between 50K and 100K. And depending on your driving style and traffic environment, you'll probably not need brakes if they've already been done once. Save the money for maintenance and go to a reputable BMW Indy for service when the car needs it.

What people need to understand is the BMW maintenance plan only benefits BMW because all you are doing is giving money to BMW up front, which they use as a financial asset to capitalize the business. BMW gets the benefit of using the money over the time period they have it and you don't. Also the price you pay for the service you get is undefined at the beginning of the term of the plan. It makes no monetary sense to pre-buy maintenance especially with a BMW where the service is determined by the conditions the car is used under and the service requirements vary. If the car had a specific oil change interval, say every 5,000 miles, or coolant changes every 2 years regardless of mileage, then the plan would make more sense, but that is not the case. You could argue the low mileage OCI would give one more oil change, but at $120 for that service, it's hard to justify spending $1,800 to get 3 oil changes rather than two.
