Fountain Pen and Writing Instrument Thread

I figured that we have an entire subforum devoted to watches so why not a single thread for pen collectors? I searched for a bit and didn't see any threads made in the past two years about fountain pens or any luxury writing instruments.

Does anyone else collect or at least have an appreciation for pens?

I realize this is a car forum, but I figured there might be a few others that collect like I do. Just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there.

If you collect, feel free to post up a few pictures or talk about your collection. I'll wait to see if there's any interest before I post up my collection so I don't feel like an idiot.

From the ages of 7 to 18 my school required me to use a fountain pen, so I have a few. The one I use the most is a Montblanc Meisterstuck Platinum Line Le Grand Fountain Pen.

But I haven't used it for a while after an ink leak ruined the jacket lining of one suit too many!

I have a montblanc pen that sits on my desk.

It writes extremely smooth, but my handwriting looks like chicken scratches.
I just use the free pens as I lose them, "loan" them to someone and never get them back.

good thing the advertisement market is strong as people love to put their business on fancy looking pens.

Pilot G-2 is best pen? Flase!

Not a fountain pen, but the best pen I have ever used. Not gel so it doesn't smear and the writing is smooth as silk.

In my opinion the Montblanc 146 and 147 variations are the best overall pens for the price. I rotate using my pens very often, but most of the time I find myself grabbing one of my 146 variations.

Most of mine are the gold plated trim, but I do own a 162 Le Grand Rollerball with Platinum trim and it has a much more modern look which I like.

I'm the exact same way. My handwriting certainly doesn't do my collection any justice. However, I have found that it has greatly improved after using a nib over a ballpoint/rollerball pen.

Here is the majority of my collection. There are about 4-5 other pens worth mentioning that aren't shown in the pictures. Nothing terribly expensive, but I prefer having quite a bit of diversity as far as size, filler style, and type of pen (fountain, ballpoint, rollerball, pencil).

This. I meant to post it last week but you beat me to it. I order these at work. I actually order several 0.7s and 1.0s and I swap the ink to make the pen case blue rather than black on the 1.0s. Just typing this out made me realize how weird it is...

Occasionally I run into flak from other fountain pen people who think I'm using the Montblanc specifically because of the prestige and not because of writing performance. But I've yet to find another pen that just fits my hand and nib preferences so perfectly, despite having written with even higher end pens.

The Montblanc 146 is just perfect - not too big, not too small, not to heavy, not too light, with a great tweakable nib and classic looks. I just don't need anything else as a daily driver.

I've come to the conclusion that there is always going to be someone who wants to offer their negativity (especially with pens). My thought process is always that "Cost is only an issue in the absence of value." Some people buy them for the prestige, while others buy them for the writing experience. I personally could care less. If you bought the pen because it makes YOU happy rather than someone else, I say enjoy it no matter what your reasoning is.

Not really a "fountain pen" but similar concept...

If I could, I would write with this every day but its not practical as it smears and requires a lot of technique. Drawing with these are badass though, I hated using these during my first semester of architecture studio but by the end of I was able to appreciate them more.

I should get myself a fountain pen someday though, but to be honest with all the different kinds of pens out (Zebra and Uni-ball as mentioned above), the fountain pens are kind of a nuisance. But it's the appreciation of the fine detail I suppose! I do consider myself a pen hoarder though, I always carry a variety of sizes and types in my bag.
