Run Flat Tires Issue???

Hello, I am going to purchase a 2008 BMW 335I Coupe. However I see that MANY people are having problems with there Run Flat Tires. I dont know if the problem is the Run Flat Tires or if it is the actual suspension and wheel setup that the Sporrt package has. Is there anyway to get around this and still have the sport package? I would like the sport package but I dont want to get screwed every 5-6 months buying new Run Flats. Anyone have any advice??? Thanks!!!!

What problems are you talking about? I switched to Michelin PS2s on 19" rims because they are sticky as hell and I need the traction. I must be missing the posts of people having problems with the stock tires (other than them going up in smoke )

IMO, the sport package is worth every penny...

I don't think it's so much a problem with the tires as that they don't meet most people's expectation. You can always replace with non-runflats.

I think most of the people that have issues with runflat tires do not like the stiff ride. That is particularly true with the 5-Series becasue the car's suspension was not designed from the ground up for runflat tires, and 5-Series buyers often prefer a softer, more luxurious ride. Also that they had all kind of problems with the earlier models that came with Dunlop runflats. The suspension on the new 3-Series, on the other hand, was designed for runflats, and buyers often do not mind stiffer ride, so there are relatively few issues other then the mandatory replacement once it goes flat and the high cost associated with it.

Another reason for people to switch to non-runflats is the very limited selection. So if you are looking for custom sizes or some particular handling requirements, you probably cannot find runflats to fill the bill.

I never actually drove my car with the stock sport package rims and runflats because they delivered my car with the 19" Style 230 rims and my PS2s installed. But I did test drive the car a couple of months before I bought it and based on that drive and how my car feels now, I don't think there is much difference in ride quality between the stock tire/wheel setup and my 19" with non-runflat Michelin PS2s P235-35R19 in the front and P265-30R19 in the back. Basically it's a wash, despite the slightly shorter sidewall on the PS2s...

The original runflats are good. ( 18") No problems whatsoever. I'd rather like PS2, sooner or later I'll get them.
What I experienced is runflats are more sturdy when you hit a pot hole! Everytime it happend, you see a black mark on the rim horn but no bubble on the side wall. They also are not bad in the rain. If they come stock, ok. But to replace them, no thanks, they are expensive as hell.
Go for the sport package!

I have a question: If I want to change my stock 18s RFT out, and replace it with non-run flats, do I need to bypass any BMW alert system? Will it be a problem???

Thanks!

Not at all. The tire pressure transmitter (TPMS) is with the valve stem installed.
It works regardless what tire you have.
