clutch slipping? with videos

So tonight i planned on going on the highway and doing some 3rd gear pulls to fully "auto tune" my jb4 since there are not a lot of people on the roads at this time. I have a 2008 e90 manual transmission. I recently installed meth on my car. Im also fbo . so i was on map 3 and doing some pulls, and i noticed something strange. My rpms would steadily go up starting from around 1k. around 3500/4000k my rpms jump/slip about 500 to 1000rpm's without the speed going up or more "pull" i assume this is my clutch starting to slip since I'm boosting a lot higher now? (around 17psi) stock turbos. I think i have the stock clutch on my car from the first owner and i have around 50k miles on it. has anyone seen this happen before with the rpms slipping/jumping up like that? if it is time to replace the clutch, i was thinking about going the spec 2+ route. should i replace the flywheel or just resurfacing the stock one would be ok? any suggestions or thoughts? thanks!

It happened the same thing to me. My clutch slipped horrible especially with e85. I installed the spec stage 3+ with steel flywheel and i can say that i'm very happy with my setup now. I suggest you either go with a steel fw or get a brand new dmfw.

Yep, it's slipping. Spec 2+ is popular. I always recommend a new OEM DMFW. Resurfacing can be risky if not done correctly and cause a lot of problems.

Can an oem flywheel handle fbo with e85 mix and meth setup?

I recommend going with a SMFW. It's noisier but makes the car much more responsive and enjoyable to drive not to mention the added bonus of ditching the DMFW as a potential failure point.

You didnt change out the CDV did you? Clutch Delay Valve? When I did I had a little air in my line which casued me to slip. I had the same issue you did bled the line and i was fine. I am still changing the clutch out just waiting a month or so till it gets bad.

that is the clutch for sure mine was only 100-200 RPM but exactly the same thing. Does it always happen? Have you tried loading the clutch up in first and see if it slips

i can't floor it in first with these temps, i dont know if its my wheels spinning or clutch lol. I have heard sometimes it takes time for catches to "warm" up before the fully grab. When i go to work today i travel 25miles one way so i will see what happens with my clutch after its hot enough

Yup, that's the clutch slipping. I replaced mine shortly after it started slipping since there is no point in having all that power if you can't even use it. On the plus side, the upgraded clutch makes the drivetrain feel more solid and able to transfer power better.

clutch... back down the power till you change it. or else you are just screwing your FW further (which is fine if you're changing it)

It's still slipping and if you keep abusing it you will need one a lot sooner. You can milk it for a few thousand miles if you plan on not flooring it in that power band though. (pointless IMO).

As Marv said either back down the power or stay out of that powerband. Once a clutch slips and you start burning it it can be a couple days before you can barely go up hills. I've seen it happen many times.

Staying with OEM DMFW or going single mass is up to you. There is a give and take with both applications.

Thanks! Seems like a lot of people are going with a single mass steel flywheel(not the aluminum one) can you tell me a little the diff between the oem dual mass vs the single mass steel one? I want the one with the least chatter yet hold all my horses. I was thinking of going with the spec 2+ or 3. Seems like a lot of people are satisfied with this company , no? Any help would really help. I plan to buy a clutch end of the week after I do my research and price research

Which clutch you pull the trigger on?

I have the HPF stage 2 with DMF. The pedal pressure is like stock but engagement is higher, it takes some getting used to but I daily drive it without problems. It drives like a beefed up stock clutch and holds 500lbs+ in 5th like a champ.
