Unhappy New Tires, New Rims, NEW PROBLEMS; please help!

I have a 2006 BMW 325xi- i believe its the base model. Car came with 16" rims and tires. So over the weekend, I recently got new 18" Rims (love em).

Exact size in the front is 18 x 8.0, with a tire size of 225/40/18, and the rear is 18 x 9.0, with tires of 255/35/18 - Yes Staggered.

When i installed the wheels Sunday night, I instantly got the " (!) " signal in my dash. I think the car thinks one or all of the tires are now flat - or low with air pressure tires. In reading threads on here, the 2006 model e90 didn't have TPMS Sensors, and i don't believe my originals have them either.

I went to the dealer this morning to discuss this and they said although my car doesn't have TPMS, they are saying that my car was NEVER designed for larger wheels and that i may have to just live with the Tire notification; which I thought was ridiculous. I cannot be the only individual in the US to put 18's on his 2006 BMW having to deal with this error code. They also ran the key data thing, and the status code says, "CODE 00063"- Short Message, "Flat Tire." Full Message, "Tire Pressure Loss: Stop Carefully. See Owners Manual for important information."
So you know I also reset the tire notification in the settings, and it just came back on.

PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!!
There has to be a way around this.

That's very odd. Maybe you will have to code that error message out...?

Did you do the math to check if the outer diameter is close to the original tire diameter?

I believe the e90s without TPMS use a calculator measuring actual speed against what the car thinks it's doing to measure how "flat" your tires are.

What size tires were originally on the car. Some 2006 models did have TPMS although I'm having trouble myself figuring out which specific models did or didn't.

There are a few guys in NY that do coding. You may want to go into the regional section and just ask them to code the light out. It's a quick 10 min fix.

This may sound silly, but have you confirmed that your tire pressure is actually correct?

Well i see your problem. Youve got 16" tires on a 18" rim. Your car doesnt even have TPMS?

^ +1.

I hope you just made a typo, and didn't actually somehow force 16" tires on 18" wheels.

Also, lol @ the dealer telling you the car was never meant for any wheel larger than 16", since, you know... they have factory options for 18" staggered setups.

If your tire sizes are appropriate, you may just want to go with the obvious first and check the tire pressures. You didn't post whether or not you'd already done that, so I'll assume you haven't yet. On my LCI its 32/36, should be similar for yours.

so am i S.O.L.?
am i really going to have to live with this thing with this car? I can't beleive this hasn't happened to anyone else that has my car?

my buddy mention to me that my car may have a FTM or Flat Tire Monitor that uses ABS sensors to detect a difference in rotational speeds when u get a flat or ur tire pressures are off. is there a way to disconnect this thing without triggering a light to go off in the HUD?

Dude, that is exactly what you have. Your buddy is correct. It is what the rest of the world has or had.

I have it on my 2007 e90, because it was a 10/2006 build....nice shoes, BTW...

So, when the alert comes up, you have to press the tire pressure icon two times....once to access it...second time hold it for a few seconds and then it should come up with a checked box and something that says, "Tire Pressure Reset." After that, start rolling for it to adjust to the new setting.

Make sure you are in a parking lot to do this...

On the tire pressure, I have 35psi Front/41psi Rear on Hankook non-runflats. That is for speeds up to and beyond 100 mph or a full load of passengers or gear.

I don't pay attention to anything but what it says on the door jamb. The yellow sticker on my driver side door jamb suggests 39psi Front/45psi Rear for speeds beyond 100mph. I lowered mine to account for heat inflating the tires.

GL and congrats on the 18s. I have 219M M3 wheels on mine at 18x8.5F/18x9.5R, with plus sizes 235/40 front, 265/35 rear. I will go back to 225/255 when the Hankooks wear out, with Pilot Super Sports, to stop the occasional rubbing in the rear.
