Rock/Explosive Thrown at Car. Suggestions to repair dent.
So last night around 1:00 a.m. I was pulling into my neighborhood and heard what sounded like an explosion on the passenger side of my car. I thought I blew out a tire but nothing alerted me on the car's computer. I kept driving until I got to my house and took a look. I noted a golf ball size dent at the junction of the front and rear passenger doors. I filed a police report, etc. and found out that there were more incidents in my neighborhood just like this an hour later. Anyway, can anyone tell me if this dame is easily repairable by a shop and if I should get my insurance company involved. I have a $1000 deductible. Here are the pics:

That can be repaired for under $1000. If only your deductible was $500, then you could go through insurance. Do you know what caused that dent/explosion?

No clue what caused it. I had a few beers so my sober buddy was driving my car. I was sitting in the passenger seat. I heard a loud explosion and we just continued to drive. I don't know what a rock sounds like hitting a car but it could have been just that. It also could have been an explosive. Probably some kids doing this hiding in the bushes but who knows. For sure they hit one other lady's car at 2:00 a.m. as well just over her rear wheel. Time to move out of my neighborhood I guess.

That wouldn't be an explosion, but whatever the projective was, it had to be propelled by something much more powerful than just a hand, so that is where you might have heard the explosion. The area affected is very rigid, the quarter panel there is fused with B pillar and door has wrapped seams there. So what I am saying is that particular area is hard to dent like that, so whatever hit you was serious.
I hope cops get off their asses and actually try to solve this, as it looks dangerous. As far as repairs go, it would be around $150-250 depending where you go. They won't remove the dents (paint less dent removal wont work for reasons states above, too rigid of a spot to do it) they will just fill them in with body filler and respray the area. |
