Yeah it turned out that the bolt itself had double threaded giving the illusion that the pan had been stripped. However, I was able to run a tap up in there and the threads seemed fine so I tried best as able to clean up the threads on the old bolt an dealt with a leak till the new bolt came in. It turns out that the old bolt wasn't even the right bolt to begin with so somewhere down the line my cars OE bolt had been stripped and a replacement found with the same tread size and head size. However, OEM BMW bolts are about 1/4 inch longer overall. I drained my oil, put the new bolt in, then poured my oil back in and all is now well. id post a picture of the bolts but I don't care enough to mess with it right now.
